The Bridges to Success model is designed to be implemented by a Program Coordinator in cooperation with Special Education and building level administrators.

The Program Coordinator:

1. Facilitates new teacher orientation
2. Assigns a building guide
3. Selects and trains qualified mentors
4. Provides on-going support to early career educators
5. Supports the mentor relationship
6. Identifies professional development needs
7. Plans and implements professional development
8. Facilitates follow-up activities


Step One Begin by reading an overview of the three components of the Bridges model.

Step Two Next, download information and materials for planning and implementing the orientation component, selecting and training mentors and building guides, and providing ongoing support.

1. New Teacher Orientation
Ensure that orientation materials contain all of the necessary information



Meet wih your early career educator to explain policies, procedures, school culture and expectations
Attend orientation meetings with special education and building level administrators
2. Building Guide
Assign a regular education staff member to act as a building guide to assist the early career educator become acculturated within the school culture. Meet with Building Guide on "as needed" basis for assistance with building level information and completing the Resource Inventory
3. Selecting Qualified Mentors     Mentor Training
Assign qualified  individuals willing to offer both technical and emotional support. Facilitate mentor training activities. Complete nomination process and be willing to serve as a mentor for a predetermined amount of time. Complete training in the roles and responsibilities of a mentor.
4. On-going Support Meet regularly with your early career educator on a formal and informal basis to offer support and guidance.
