Implementation Plans

Meeting the Needs of Early Career Educators

Implementation plans are developed by both members of the mentoring partnership based on the needs of the early career educator. Needs are identified through the use of a Early Career Educator Needs Self-Assessment which rates specific areas and objectives by their order of importance and priority. The specific objectives within each area are based on competencies that are required for licensure. The early career educators rate their level of confidence at this time for each of the competencies. This is a self reflective activity and should not be part of any present or future evaluation or performance check on their teaching.

Summarized information gained from the needs self-assessment can be used to plan the year's professional development activities. In other words, plans for your mentor partnership professional development will be based on the areas the early career teacher indicates are the highest priority and where they would like to gain confidence.

The Implementation Plan

The implementation plans, with their suggested activities, detail WHAT should happen during each of the three quarters of the school year. The mentor's job is to work with the early career teacher to identify:

  1. How it can happen.
  2. Who will be involved in the activity?
  3. What resources will you need to make it happen?
  4. Who is going to secure those resources? If, for example, you feel you need to talk with the librarian about using the computer with Internet access in the library at a particular time that fits into your schedules, who will be responsible for making those arrangements?
  5. When would you like these activities to happen?
  6. And finally, what are the outcomes to your activity and at what point will you feel you have successfully completed the activity?
