History:
The Education Evaluation Center (EEC) has offered quality comprehensive
assessment services since 1962 to individuals age three through
adult. The EEC specializes in assessing not only an individual’s
disability but also his/her functional skills, strengths and weaknesses
and capacities as well as making recommendations for the school,
college, work or community environments. All staff at the EEC is
nationally and/or state certified with significant experience in
the field of special education. Staff is experienced in providing
assessments, consultations, graduate coursework and in-service training.
Mission:
The mission of the EEC is to:
· Improve the educational outcomes for children and adults
with disabilities
· Provide diagnostic/prescriptive services
· Provide consultation services to parents and school personnel
· Provide training and on-site assistance to school and agency
personnel
EEC Location:
Services are generally provided at the Education Evaluation Center,
located on the campus of Western Oregon University, approximately
15 miles west of Salem on highway 99 West. Staff also travels to
schools and agencies throughout Oregon when there are two or more
individuals to be evaluated.
Services to schools:
The EEC provides resource services to assist the Oregon Department
of Education and local education agencies with the implementation
of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure
that individuals with disabilities are assessed appropriately, and
are provided with effective educational programs. The EEC identifies
resources for reducing bias in the assessment of students from diverse
cultures, assists education agencies in enhancing their capacity
to conduct multicultural assessments, analyzes evaluation information,
and has developed a procedural manual to assist special education
teams in assessing culturally and linguistically diverse students.
Staff also has developed innovative assessment procedures, tools,
and a manual for the evaluation of students transitioning from school
to work or postsecondary education. The EEC disseminates resources
and provides training to schools, parents, and agencies throughout
Oregon.
Independent Evaluations:
The EEC provides non-biased independent educational evaluations
in order to assist schools and parents resolve conflicts involving
disability evaluation and services.
Rural Services:
The EEC has an extensive history of providing assessment and consultation
services to local education agencies and students with disabilities
and in rural Oregon. EEC staff will travel to rural areas of the
state to assist IEP teams in diagnosing children.
Consultation and Training:
The EEC staff has extensive experience in providing consultation
services as well as pre-service and inservice training to Oregon
teachers and disability specialists on a wide variety of special
education assessment and programming issues and procedures. Staff
also provides consultation and training in disability related issues
to a wide variety of public and private disability organizations,
service providers, and support groups.
