Speech-Language Pathologists in Oregon

Deadline for the 2008 SLP Scholarships Has Been Extended!

Oregon Cohort 2 is currently accepting applications From School Districts, ESD’s and Individuals for participation in Nova Southeastern University’s Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology Program.

What is this Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for an employee of an Oregon school district or ESD to obtain a Master's in Speech-Language Pathology through the distance program conducted by Nova Southeastern University (NSEU) in Oregon. This program is designed for individuals to complete the program while working full-time. This package contains application materials for those seeking application to the Cohort as well as for those seeking a scholarship for the program.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Two types of applicants are invited to apply: 1) an Oregon school district or ESD may seek application and/or a scholarship for an employee; and 2) an individual, working in an Oregon school district or ESD may apply to participate in the Cohort. In other words, either an individual working in an Oregon school/ESD or the district/ESD itself may seek application for participation in the Cohort. Only an Oregon school district or ESD may apply for a scholarship for the program, naming a specific scholarship candidate in their application.

What are the advantages to participating in Oregon Cohort 2?

The advantages to our state cohort include:
1) the ability to participate in a specially designed “hybrid” distance program that combines face-to-face workshops with distance course work (students who have looked into a distance program will appreciate the uniqueness of the hybrid model which gives them a chance to meet face-to-face with each course professor, right here in Oregon);
2) up to a 15% tuition reduction (up to $5,400 per student in savings);
3) home state group support;
4) Oregon Cohort students receive the initial orientation and technology class in Oregon rather than having to travel to Florida; and
5) NSEU has designed a program that accommodates individuals who are working while obtaining their degree.

What are the scholarship opportunities?

There is a limited scholarship opportunity for this program. Approximately 10 scholarships, up to $5,000 each, will be awarded to applying school districts or ESD’s who name a specific scholarship candidate in their application. Scholarship grants will be awarded on a competitive basis.

Can either an individual or a school district/ESD apply for participation without applying for a scholarship?

Yes, applications to participate as a member of Cohort 2 will be accepted from either a district/ESD or an individual. Approximately 15 positions will be available in Cohort 2 for non-scholarship participants.

* Note to districts/ESD's: if you have applied for a scholarship for a prospective candidate, you do not need to also apply for participation in the Cohort for that same candidate.

Can an individual apply for a scholarship?

No, specifications of the scholarship monies require that all scholarships are awarded to a school district or ESD naming a specific scholarship candidate.

When does the Master’s program start?

The program will start January 2009. It takes 3 years or 9 semesters to complete the program.

Where can I get Oregon Cohort 2 application materials?

This package contains everything you will need to apply, either as a school district/ESD or as an individual.

Please note the deadline for sending in your application materials: we are now past the deadline and accepting applications on a 'first come, first served' basis for the remaining slots in Cohort 2. You are advised to return the applications as soon as possible. See the application packages for transmittal details.
